Dentist Fears

In the past, I suffered from PTSD and had triggers that brought on great anxiety.  I would freak out at the dentist office.  Sitting in the chair, I’d get scared and tremble or start to cry.  The dentist didn’t know what to do or how to calm me down.   I avoided the dentist office and so I needed a lot of dental work done due to neglect of my teeth.. A counselor, knowing I had an upcoming appointment at the dentist office and that I needed to stay calm, gave me a little plastic teddy bear covered in velvet material to put in my pocket.  I could hold it in my hand or just keep it in my pocket to remind me I am safe and nothing bad was going to happen.   It was very sweet and I stayed calm when I went to the appointment.
